Roger studied Art at Leeds and Canterbury, achieving Distinctions, and later studied lettering, gaining further Distinctions. For several years he taught Art and Design in the UK
Enthralled by a David Attenborough film on primitive cultures, he then spent the next two years teaching among the Enga mountain tribes of Papua New Guinea. Returning to England and, dreaming of turquoise waters, he sailed across the Atlantic to the Caribbean in his home built yacht.
Ruth and Roger launched their first map in the British Virgin Islands. Anchored in a beautiful bay, they rowed to work every day – to their studio and gallery on the edge of the beach.
More illustrated maps followed, and commissions came in for a wide range of artwork in all kinds of media and materials.
In recent years they have also been teaching drawing and painting to regular groups and in occasional weekend workshops.
